Is Subway chicken halal in Canada?
No. The grilled chicken, chicken strips and rotisserie-style chicken carry no halal claim and no certifier's name. The guide is national, so Calgary gets the same chicken as Halifax. Here is every protein on the line:

Has Subway gone halal?
Partly, in the UK and Ireland. Since 2007, franchisees there have been allowed to open halal stores. By 2014, nearly 200 stores had swapped ham and bacon for turkey versions and were signed as halal. Snopes has the history.

None of that exists in Canada. Subway Canada has no halal store list, no halal program and no halal item in its guide. It's the same mix-up as KFC, where a real program somewhere else gets heard as a Canada-wide one.
Is there a halal Subway in Saddletowne?
I couldn't find one in Saddletowne or NE Calgary. None of the 125 Calgary store pages on Subway's own store finder mentions halal. Websites that claim some Toronto or Mississauga stores are halal never name an address or a certifier. A store with a real certificate can tell you who issued it in one sentence.
Could a Calgary Subway go halal?
It can be done, and a store that did it would say so. Freshii Sundance, at 15 Sunpark Plaza SE, Unit 3107, is a chain store that went part-halal. Only its chicken and steak are halal-certified: the chicken by the Central Islamic Council of Thailand, the steak by FAMBRAS Halal Brazil. It also serves pork, so the certificate covers those two meats, not the kitchen.

- Ask to see the certificate. A real one names a certifying body and has a date.
- Ask which meats it covers. At Freshii Sundance, it's the chicken and steak only.
- Ask what else the same counter touches. At Subway, that's the ham and bacon.

What can Muslims eat at Subway?
If you already chose Subway, pick the Veggie Patty, Veggie Delite, tuna or egg. All are made on the shared counter.
- Cheese. The Canadian cheddar, habanero jack and shredded Monterey-cheddar blend list microbial enzyme. Skip the processed cheddar slice, which lists "rennet and/or microbial enzyme".
- Sauces. Only two contain alcohol: the Barrel Bourbon BBQ (bourbon whisky) and the Smoky Honey Mustard (white wine in its Dijon).
- Soup. Where a store has it, cream of broccoli and cream of mushroom are meat-free. Skip the loaded baked potato, which has bacon.
- The counter. Ask for fresh gloves.

Tehran Grocery, Kensington Rd NW
Tehran Grocery is a small Persian shop at 2120 Kensington Rd NW. Its counter makes a halal cold-cut sub: Persian cold cuts with pickles and tomato. The shop is fully halal and rated 4.6 on Google.
Phillys, Falsbridge Dr NE
Phillys at 5475 Falsbridge Dr NE is a fully halal Philly cheesesteak counter. Order the Philly cheese grinder. It is the closest thing to a hot sub here.

Pekko in Kensington serves Korean fried, Nashville hot and jerk chicken, on brioche or in a bowl. All of its food is certified halal. It is rated 4.6 on Google.
