It is 11pm, or 1am, and the question is not "what is good" but "what is open". Calgary is not a late-night city, and halal narrows it further — but there are more options than the four everybody names, and a couple of them run genuinely around the clock.
One honest caveat before the list. We do not store opening hours, because hours change faster than any list can keep up with and a wrong one sends you across the city for a locked door. What follows is the set of kitchens whose late hours are recorded in their listings. Check before you drive, especially on a weeknight.
Open 24 hours
The Taste Factory — 47 St NE
The genuine one. The Taste Factory is a 24-hour Pakistani kitchen built for odd hours, serving parathas, nihari and sweets at any point on the clock. The nihari is the dish to judge it by — it is the one that shows whether a kitchen is actually slow-cooking at 3am or reheating.
D Spot Dessert Cafe — 17 Ave SW
A 24-hour halal dessert cafe: waffles, crepes, milkshakes, a chocolate fountain, and savoury pizza and poutine if you want an actual meal. D Spot also has an on-site prayer space, which is an unusual and genuinely thoughtful thing for a dessert shop to have at 2am.
Open very late
Foodyard — Carrington NW
Open until 3am, marketed by its owners as 100% halal, and the most fun menu on this page — South Asian flavours folded into burgers, poutines and rice bowls. The Butter Chicken Poutine and the Gulab Jamun Shake are the two most-ordered items at Foodyard, which tells you exactly what kind of place it is. 4.7 across 619 reviews.
Jerusalem Shawarma Downtown — 17 Ave SW
The 17 Ave location stays open into the early morning and is built for speed rather than a sit-down meal. It is the reliable after-a-night-out option in the Beltline, and the busiest late-night halal counter downtown by a distance.
King of Shawarma — 13 St SW
Late hours and a signature green chili sauce that regulars order specifically. King of Shawarma is a short walk from the downtown core, and the sauce is the reason to pick it over a closer counter — ask for it if it does not come as standard.
Cloud Naan — Cornerstone NE
The offbeat one: Cloud Naan is a late-night stuffed naan shop, sweet and savoury, stretching naan well past its job as a side bread. A better answer than a third shawarma of the week if you are in the far northeast.
If you want to sit down rather than grab and go
Two halal lounges keep late hours downtown and are built for lingering. Diwan on 6 Ave SW does shawarma, mixed kabob platters and hummus alongside a shisha menu. VYB Social, a couple of blocks away, is a halal Indian-fusion lounge with a patio — 4.9 across 573 reviews, and worth reserving if you want a table during peak shisha hours.
What is actually open on Eid nights and long weekends
Nothing on this page is a promise. The 24-hour kitchens are the safest bet on a holiday, and the shawarma counters are the safest bet after midnight on a Friday or Saturday — but a small independent can and does close early on a slow night.
