Pray by your own mosque's timetable: Calgary's mosques don't all calculate prayer times the same way, and in summer their Fajr and Isha can be an hour or more apart. Each mosque's timetable is linked below, by area. The countdown in this site's top bar is a calculation for downtown Calgary, good for a quick check but not your mosque's iqamah. And one thing changed this winter: Alberta stopped changing its clocks on 1 November 2026, so winter prayer times now read an hour later than last winter's printed timetables and any phone that hasn't updated.

Alberta Time: why this winter's times are an hour later

On 1 November 2026 Alberta moved to permanent Alberta Time, UTC−6, which used to be Mountain Daylight Time. The clocks did not fall back, and they won't change in spring either. The sun hasn't moved, so every prayer comes an hour later on the clock than it did last winter. On 21 December, Dhuhr is about 1:35pm and Maghrib about 5:32pm by calculation, where a year earlier they were about 12:35pm and 4:32pm.

Two things to check. A prayer app or watch that still thinks Calgary is on Mountain Standard Time will be an hour early; the Government of Alberta's own advice is to install updates and turn on automatic time zone. And a timetable printed before November may have been made on the old clock. On 1 November, the first day of Alberta Time, a couple of mosque websites were still showing times an hour early; if your mosque's online times look an hour off, ask. Your mosque's current timetable is the one to trust.

Why Calgary's prayer times swing so far

Calgary sits at 51 degrees north. On the longest day the sun sets at about 9:55pm and rises at about 5:22am, and at its lowest, around 1:40am, it only sinks about 15.5 degrees below the horizon. That matters because Fajr and Isha are set by how far below the horizon the sun is: 15 degrees in the method the Islamic Society of North America uses, 18 degrees for Fajr in the Muslim World League's.

So in June, by the plain 15-degree rule, Isha would fall at about 12:58am and Fajr at about 2:18am, only 80 minutes apart. By the 18-degree rule, the sky never gets dark enough at all, on every night from about 26 May to 19 July. So a timetable on 18 degrees has to use a high-latitude rule to place Fajr and Isha in summer, and most timetables use one: dividing the night in proportion, taking a seventh of the night, or the middle of it. The calculation behind this site's countdown, for one, puts Isha at about 11:47pm and Fajr at about 3:30am on 21 June. Mosques can choose different rules, which is why summer timetables can disagree by an hour or more.

Winter is the opposite squeeze. On 21 December the sun rises at about 9:37am and sets at about 5:32pm, so Dhuhr, Asr and Maghrib all fall within four hours of each other, and Maghrib lands in the evening rush.

Calculated for downtown Calgary on Alberta Time, by the Aladhan service this site's countdown uses, with its default high-latitude rule, and checked against a separate solar calculation to within a minute. In June the sun never reaches 18 degrees below the horizon, so the June Fajr and Isha are placed by the high-latitude rule. An illustration of the method, not a mosque timetable.

Why two mosques show different times

  • The Fajr and Isha angle. 15 degrees or 18 for Fajr; 15 or 17 for Isha. On 21 December the two Fajr times are 20 minutes apart.
  • The summer rule. Which high-latitude rule a timetable uses can move summer Isha and Fajr by up to two hours: on 21 June, Isha comes anywhere from about 11pm to nearly 1am.
  • Asr. The Hanafi Asr comes later than the standard one: about 30 minutes later on 21 December, and about an hour and a quarter later on 21 June.
  • Adhan and iqamah. Most mosques publish the iqamah, the time the congregation stands, which comes some minutes after the start of the prayer time. For praying with the jamaat, the iqamah is the time you need.
  • A few minutes' margin. Some timetables add minutes of caution to Fajr, Maghrib or Isha.

The start of Ramadan and the two Eids is a separate question, settled by moon sighting or calculation; the Eid guide explains how Calgary mosques decide.

Where each mosque posts its timetable

Where each mosque and musalla on this map publishes its daily times, checked on 1 November 2026. Most show the adhan and iqamah on their home page; a few keep a monthly table or use an app. Jumu'ah is given as the number of sittings, not clock times, because those shift with the season. The Ismaili jamatkhanas and the Dawoodi Bohra hall keep their own schedules and are not listed here.

Jumu'ah in Calgary

Calgary's mosques run anywhere from one to four Jumu'ah sittings, and the bigger ones fill up, so arrive early. Several hold Jumu'ah away from their own room: Al-Hedaya at the Genesis Centre, IANWC at the Ranchlands Community Centre while its musalla is renovated, the Islamic Centre of South Calgary at McKenzie Towne Hall as well as Legacy, MAC at its school and the Marlborough Community Association, the IISC at a Friday-only location, and the Green Dome's assembly at Friday locations across Calgary and Airdrie. Abu Huraira's first sitting is in Arabic only; most mosques don't say online which language the khutbah is in, so ask. Take the clock time from the mosque's own page for that Friday.

Away from a mosque, rented halls host Jumu'ah across the suburbs; the where to pray guide lists them, and the mosques guide has every mosque and musalla by quadrant. Two are open 24 hours: the Green Dome and Fairview Southeast Mosque.

Ramadan 2027: Fajr and Maghrib in Calgary

Ramadan 2027 is expected to begin on Monday 8 February, and Eid al-Fitr on Tuesday 9 or Wednesday 10 March. It is the first Ramadan on Alberta Time, and there is no clock change during it. Suhoor ends at Fajr and the fast breaks at Maghrib; this is how they move through the month.

Calculated for downtown Calgary on Alberta Time (Aladhan; ISNA 15° and Muslim World League 18° for Fajr). Your mosque's timetable may differ by several minutes, more for Fajr; follow it.

Common questions

Did prayer times in Calgary change with Alberta Time?

On the clock, yes. Alberta stayed on UTC−6 from 1 November 2026 instead of falling back to Mountain Standard Time, so every winter prayer reads an hour later than it did last winter: Maghrib on 21 December is about 5:32pm, not 4:32pm. A phone or printed timetable still on the old time will be an hour early.

What time is Isha in Calgary in June?

Late, and it depends on the method. Around the longest day, with the usual high-latitude rule, calculated Isha falls between about 11:47pm (at 15 degrees) and just after midnight (at 17 degrees); other high-latitude rules move it from about 11pm to nearly 1am. Your mosque's timetable is the one to follow.

Why do Calgary mosques have different prayer times?

They can use different calculations: 15 or 18 degrees for Fajr, different high-latitude rules for summer, the standard or Hanafi Asr, and some add a few minutes' margin. Most also publish iqamah times, which come after the start of the prayer. Go by the timetable of the mosque you pray at.

Which prayer time method does Calgary use?

There is no single one. Each mosque sets its own timetable. The countdown on this site uses the Islamic Society of North America's 15-degree method for downtown Calgary, calculated by the Aladhan service, as a quick reference.

What time is Fajr in Calgary in Ramadan 2027?

By calculation, about 7:10 to 7:30am when Ramadan begins on 8 February, depending on the method, and about 6:13 to 6:33am by 9 March. Maghrib moves from about 6:40pm to about 7:31pm. There is no clock change during Ramadan in 2027. Follow your mosque's timetable for suhoor.

Is Jumu'ah at the same time at every Calgary mosque?

No. Each mosque sets its own Jumu'ah, and the bigger centres run two or more sittings. Check the mosque's timetable or announcements for that Friday, and arrive early at the larger mosques.
