Haifa Cafe

Haifa Cafe is a Palestinian coffee house in the northeast, on 37th Avenue, open every day from 11 AM until 1 AM. The room is done in warm tones with Palestinian paintings on the walls and shelves of books — including a good collection of Islamic titles — that you are meant to pull down and read while you drink. The drinks list runs from espresso, lattes and mochas through matcha to the specialty hot teas that give the place its character: Karak, Adani and Kashmiri. On the food side there are pistachio and coconut milk cakes, Biscoff desserts, honey cake buns, cookies, croissants and fresh bagels, plus caprese, pastrami and cold-cut sandwiches. One caveat worth knowing. The cafe does not state a halal policy on its own website, and it does serve deli meats — pastrami and cold cuts — which is precisely where the question bites. Everything else about the place points the right way, but if you are ordering a meat sandwich rather than a coffee and a cake, ask first.
