Eid comes twice to Calgary in 2027. Eid al-Fitr is expected on Tuesday 9 March, possibly Wednesday 10 March, and Eid al-Adha around Sunday 16 or Monday 17 May. Both depend on the moon, so check your own mosque's announcement before you plan. Here is the rest of the planning: where Eid prayers are held, where to order baklava and mithai, where to buy a whole lamb for Eid al-Adha, and where to book the big family meal.
When is Eid in Calgary in 2027?
Ramadan 2027 is expected to begin on Monday 8 February. That puts Eid al-Fitr on Tuesday 9 March if the month runs 29 days, or Wednesday 10 March if it runs 30. Mosques that wait for a local sighting may start Ramadan on Tuesday 9 February, which would put their Eid on 10 or 11 March. Eid al-Adha falls on the 10th of Dhul Hijjah, expected around Sunday 16 or Monday 17 May, with the Day of Arafah the day before.
Not every mosque settles the date the same way. MAC Calgary, which runs Al-Salam Centre, follows the Fiqh Council of North America's astronomical criteria, so it can announce ahead. On 17 March 2026 it said that Friday 20 March would be Eid al-Fitr. Other mosques wait for the moon to be sighted the night before. Go by the announcement from the mosque you pray at, not a national calendar.

Eid al-Adha in Calgary: buying a whole lamb or goat
Eid al-Adha is the Eid of the sacrifice, and many families buy a whole lamb or goat to share with relatives, friends and people in need. Order two weeks ahead, because whole lamb and goat sell out in the week before Eid. These shops sell whole animals; if you want your qurbani slaughtered on the days of Eid itself, ask whether the shop arranges it, since the sacrifice cannot be made before the Eid prayer.
- Calgary Wholesale Market on 33 Street NE sells whole lamb and goat carcasses at wholesale prices, cheaper again in bulk, and has a large parking lot.
- Cadalow Halal Meat on 36 Street NE, near the airport, is a wholesaler that also sells to families. It cuts to order, and a whole lamb for Eid is one of its bulk orders, at close to wholesale prices.
- Atlas Halal Meat on 17 Avenue SE, a North African butcher, sells whole lamb.
- In Chestermere, First Choice Meat Shop cuts lamb and goat to order and makes up Eid catering packs.

Before you pay, agree on five things: whether it is lamb, sheep or goat, the weight, the price per pound, how it will be cut, and the day you collect. Ask for the total in writing. For everyday halal meat, see halal butchers in Calgary and butchers by neighbourhood.
Eid lunch, dinner and parties
For a big meal at home, Savana Meat Shop & Takeout in the Savanna plaza on 88 Avenue NE roasts a whole lamb and serves it on biryani rice with potatoes, fries and salad, made for family gatherings. For a hall, Fatima Karahi on Castleridge Boulevard NE has a banquet hall booked for engagements and Eid parties, and Banu Kabob & Banquet Hall on 28 Street SE is a fully halal Afghan kebab house with a hall for events.
Eating out on Eid day itself? Book ahead. Fancy halal restaurants has the rooms for an occasion, halal buffets has the big spreads, and halal catering covers feeding a crowd at home. Shop hours can differ on Eid day, so phone ahead, or buy meat and sweets the day before.
Eid outfits
Shop two to three weeks out, especially for children's sizes. Haya Collection on 27 Street NE stocks Eid outfits in small numbers. Junaid Jamshed on 30 Avenue NE has men's kurtas and children's shalwar sets for Eid. Dubai Fashion and Home Decoration on 5 Avenue NE dresses the whole family, and House of Salma in Sage Hill has Eid outfits for adults and children. The rest are in Islamic clothing in Calgary.
