from GoogleA very welcoming mosque. Performed my Jummah prayer at this place when visiting Calgary May 2026. Two prayer times for Jummah - 1:30pm and 2:30pm. Good organization and knowledgeable Imams.
Very good and large masjid with a high roof, in half portion they have divided vertically to make room for ladies prayer hall. Looks a quiet old prayer hall with huge parking.One thing I would like to mention here is for the senior person who's movebility is difficult,the management have provided sofas, but we the musllies will not complete this seating arrangements but pull the individual chairs.This draw back can be properly attended if one two volunteers, After completely this area is occupied chairs can be used. One thing I observed is they have a family councilor to guide to lead good family life,a very good initiative for the present generation. Maintaining such a big masjid is not a easy task,hattsoff to the managing committee.It is the responsibility of everyone to contribute for this noble cause.Please scan the code in the pictures and contribute.
During winter in the ladies section some people wear their shoes untill the 2 ND floor, making the stairs wet and dirty for other people who had kept their shoes in the shoe stand. It would be great if atleast for Friday prayers a volunteer stands at the beginning of the stairs to advice these people. Great mosque friendly people.
I am giving one star due to poor management. Last Saturday was my daughter’s very first fast. I wanted to make it special by taking some food for iftar at Akram joma only to be faced by great disappointment. The gym doors were closed when we arrived so we asked if we stay at ladies area for iftar. We were told that ladies are supposed to be upstairs that day. We did as we were told. After the adan everyone took their iftar and started breaking their fast only to be told to leave the area because food was not allowed there. We were asked to go in the hallway outside the gym with the plates with food in our hands, stand there and eat. This entire situation was extremely disappointing. The lady was treating everyone as we were kids. I understand that we should not be eating in the prayer area, however, this is Ramadan and people need to break their fast and then pray in a couple of minutes. Couple of things to take note here: we go to masjid to pray and connect with our community as in Sunnah. This was Iftar time and ofcourse someone will bring iftar for others. There should have been proper arrangements for that if we were not allowed to eat in the prayer area. We should not have been told to eat while standing with plates in our hands. In the end everyone simply left. This was my daughter’s special day and this was her experience. These are against the teachings of our deen.
Very nice and clean mosque conveniently located next to Islamic school and hotels if you’re visiting like we did. Plenty of parking which is a huge plus…
Delighted to offer Juma prayer. Nice big and beautiful masjid. Lots of parking and prime location.
About Akram Jomaa Islamic Centre
One of Calgary's largest mosques, Akram Jomaa Islamic Centre sits on 39 Avenue NE and is also known as Akram Jomaa Mosque. Its main hall is large under a high roof, and the big parking lot makes it easy to arrive.
Jumu'ah
There are two Jumu'ah prayers. The times move with the season, so check with the mosque before you go. The khutbah rotates between the imams, and visitors say the imams are knowledgeable.
The ladies' section
The ladies' prayer hall is a section of the main hall, divided off beneath the high roof. In winter, leave your shoes in the shoe stand at the bottom of the stairs, which keeps the stairs dry and clean for everyone. Visitors describe it as a very welcoming mosque with friendly people.
Before you go
Food is not allowed in the prayer area, so if you are bringing iftar during Ramadan, ask staff where to eat it beforehand. Sofas are set out for elders, and chairs are available too. A family counsellor is available to guide families, and the centre is wheelchair accessible.
