Son of the Pharaoh
Reviews of Son of the Pharaoh
from GoogleThis is my favourite store and I come here every time I’m in town! It’s impossible for me to leave without buying something, lol. The owner, Emad, and his son, Jacob are delightful and so helpful, without any sales-y pushiness. Emad was sure to let us know he could bring items out from displays for us to admire, even if he knew we weren’t going to buy them. And if you want to know more about their amazing, alcohol-free perfumes, Jacob is your man! Their knowledge and love for the cultures and products really shows, and I thoroughly enjoy the experience every time I visit!
I absolutely love this store! It’s one of my favourite local spots, and I find myself coming back often. The variety of unique items they offer is amazing—I’ve purchased many things from here, and everything has been of excellent quality. What truly sets this place apart, though, are the owners. They are incredibly warm, friendly, and genuinely passionate about what they do. Every visit feels personal and inviting, thanks to their hospitality. They take the time to connect with their customers, making the whole experience special. If you’re looking for a unique shopping experience with a personal touch, I can’t recommend this store enough. It’s a gem in our community!
This place is truly special. The moment you walk in, you can feel the energy — it’s more like a temple than a store. Every piece of art radiates care and beauty. The owner and his son have such a warm, kind, and magical presence. You don’t just shop here, you experience something uplifting. Highly recommended!
There’s so much to look at in this store, it is truly a spectacle! They have amazing essential oils and incense, and their statues are top quality, I personally really like the Greek and Roman artifacts. And their bowls are ancient! Walking into that store feels like be transported to an ancient Egyptian apothecary! Super cool, super esoteric.
I am so grateful that Son of the Pharaoh managed to stay open through COVID. I grew up going to the Eau Claire location. So I was over the moon to find out that once it closed, an even BIGGER location opened. I live in Van now but ALWAYS make a point of going to SOTP. Calgary just wouldn’t be Calgary without it. The decades of passion this family owned business puts into their stock, care and appreciation of their customers is bar none. I can not recommend them enough. And so long as I am able to travel, I’ll always come back.
It's almost like stepping into Egypt. Quite surreal. Jacob is amazing. He helped us understand the beautiful things in the store. He explained where the gem stones were from. I bought an onyx stone ring from him and he polished it before giving it to me. He also helped me find a good perfume. Service was truly top notch. The store is such a fun adventure. A total must visit if you're in Calgary.
People is amazing. Thanks for all 🙏🏾
Placed and paid for an order in October 2024. Last contact with company was in February 2025 as I was still waiting for the items. I was lead to believe that they were looking at a summer 2025 delivery in an email sent to me in February 2025. Since then no reply to several emails sent, it gives the impression they are ghosting me.
About Son of the Pharaoh
An Egyptian gift shop at 1512 17 Ave SW that sells its own Egyptian perfume oils, among them amber, black musk, Egyptian rose and honey oud, alongside papyrus, jewellery and Egyptian statues.
The perfume oils
The oils are sold by the scent in small bottles, from single notes such as amber, black musk and rose to blends like 1001 Nights. The shop's website has a short fragrance quiz for choosing one, and sells the oils online as well.
Good to know
The shop has been on 17 Avenue SW since 1990. Statues, papyrus and jewellery make up much of the stock, so the perfume oils are the part to come for if you want an oil-based scent in the attar style.
