Taste of Yemen
A 17th Avenue kitchen known for Yemeni mandi - slow-roasted, spice-rubbed lamb or chicken served over fragrant rice - plus a complimentary soup that starts almost every meal. It is Muslim-owned and uses halal meat throughout, in keeping with traditional Yemeni cooking, rather than carrying an outside certification. Don't skip the soup It arrives free with the meal and it is a genuine highlight, not a courtesy. Beyond that, the rice and lamb is what reviewers order and re-order, and several make a point of the value: main dishes large enough that half comes home. Good to know Go early at weekends. The dining room fills fast and there is often a short wait. Live music - one of the few halal kitchens in the city that has it. Family-friendly, good for groups, with a patio and reservations accepted. Vegetarian options available, and every meal from breakfast to dessert is served. Getting it Dine in, take out or order for delivery. 4.7 from more than 3,700 Google reviews - one of the largest review counts of any halal restaurant in Calgary.
