Shaganappi Mediterranean Market (17 Ave SW)

The original Shaganappi Mediterranean Market, near Marda Loop, selling halal meat alongside an extensive range of imported Middle Eastern goods - and part of Calgary's Mediterranean shopping scene for more than a quarter century. This is the location the Macleod Trail store grew from, and a southwest option where halal grocers are thin on the ground. What to buy The bakery section is what people rave about - bread baked daily, and meat pies that get ordered by the hundred for gatherings. Halal deli cold cuts are stocked, which is genuinely hard to find. Fresh produce is priced below the supermarkets, and there are even halal gummies on the shelves. Good to know Bulk orders are welcomed - one reviewer describes 240 meat pies prepared for a party at home. It does not open early. Regulars who shop two or three times a week would like an 8am start; plan around a later opening. Step-free entrance. Rated 4.5 from more than 550 Google reviews.
