I’m not sure who owns the Chicken on the Way in McKenzie Towne (27 McKenzie Towne Ave SE, Calgary), but I felt I had to share my experience. I took my kids there because they were hungry, and we spent around $45 on a combo meal. Sadly, it was by far the worst chicken meal we’ve ever had. The chicken pieces were tiny and extremely dry, the fries tasted like they hadn’t been properly fried, the corn fritters were rubbery, and the coleslaw smelled spoiled. We ended up throwing the entire meal away. In today’s economy, spending that kind of money only to have to throw it all out is incredibly disappointing. What concerns me most is the quality of the food, especially since families with young children eat there. I don’t usually leave negative reviews or make public complaints—in fact, this is the first time I’ve felt compelled to do so. I’m sharing this simply so others can make an informed decision and, hopefully, to encourage the restaurant to address these issues before someone gets sick.

We love Chicken on the Way, but this location is super inconsistent, mostly not up to snuff. We ordered the family meal today and the chicken ranged from not crispy and barely cooked to burned. I assume they are batch frying and then refrying the chicken. But the oil must be old because man, it is making everything soggy and imparting some kind of bitter taste. The fritters tasted like they’d been sitting under a warmer all day and were mushy, not crispy at all. And somehow the fries were undercooked and still raw. We picked the order up ourselves so this wasn’t a delivery misfire. It’s super disappointing but we’re not going to bother ordering again as we’ve given them multiple chances. I am sad the this company went from being family owned to a franchise because man, standards have slipped. Edited to Add Response to Owner: Wow, I’d love to take a hug if it comes with a refund and a courtesy meal with chicken that’s cooked properly. 🤗 Seriously, your response to my comments tells potential customers all they need to know about you and your location. Never mind that the majority of your recent Google reviews mention all the same issues I do. It’s clearly all of us who are conspiring against your brilliance, desperately seeking hugs and such.

The chicken comes wrapped in brown paper which is super cute and environmentally friendly and acts as a tablecloth for outdoor dining. The chicken itself was perfectly cooked and juicy. I ordered 2 - 4 piece dinners and subbed out the fries for fritters in one order and added gravy. The fritters were heavy and would not order again - but if you like a hearty fritter then you may enjoy these. The fries were good and the gravy was what I expected - service was excellent - the photos attached show package to plate. You get a lot of fritters when you pay the $1 to substitute as shown. I believe I received 9 total plus the 2 in the other box gave us 11 - 😂 that’s a lot of fritters for 2 meals - I do recommend Chicken on the way - prices were very good for the size of the meal.

This location used to be amazing but in the last couple of months they've been really weird about takeout/delivery orders. Either there are barely any fries or they put in the wrong pieces (even if you paid extra for a type) without letting you know or refunding. This has happened multiple times and at non-peak hours so it feels intentional, but I have no idea why. Edit: scrolled down to see how the owner handles feedback, I am never ordering again (at any location) because that is not how you talk to people who pay and are unhappy with what they receive. You dont need to apologize to every review but being condescending is not going to get you customer loyalty or 'virality'.

My wife and I decided to get lunch from here. We have never been here before. We ordered 2 snack packs. They certainly took care of our hunger. The server behind the counter was fast, efficient, and very friendly. We will definitely go back again!! Apparently they no longer offer a snack pack when it is your birthday
