from GoogleHoly shmoly, what a Grade A experience! This was my first time at Modern Steak and I have nothing but good things to say. They had a date night special that is such a good deal it feels like highway robbery 😂 Two steaks, two sides AND a bottle of wine for $100!!!!! Crazy. Of course, after reading through all the sides, we couldn’t make up our minds, so we ended up ordering more sides, an appy, and upgrading one of the steaks to a ribeye. Absolutely ZERO regrets. But honestly, the best part of the whole experience was the service. From the host, to the management, to our incredible server, Marina, everyone was fantastic. Marina was so knowledgeable about the menu, and by the end of the evening I told her she should work in marketing for the company because her passion for the business genuinely shines through. As a foodie, I LOVE being served by another foodie! Her professionalism, enthusiasm, and overall desire to make our night as special as possible really stood out. In summary, the flavours, the quality of the steaks (which I learned they actually raise themselves!!!), the value, and especially the wonderful service made this an easy 10/10 experience. We will absolutely be back!
My wife and I came here to celebrate our anniversary. We booked reservations through OpenTable. Easy and hassle free. We asked for the seafood roll and oysters to start. Delicious. Andrii recommended a delicious white wine to pair, and pair it did! For the main we requested the tomahawk steak to share. I was concerned ordering a steak with my wife as we like our steak done differently. Andrii reassured us that he has us covered! He brought out a hot stone to cook any piece a little extra if desired. Listen, dear reader, I didn't marry my beautiful wife because of the way she likes her steak cooked, so let's not dwell on that! The tomahawk came with broccolini and mashed potatoes, both were delectable! We also ordered a steak fried rice, which was beautifully done. Andrii, once again, suggested a beautiful glass of wine to pair with the meal. For desert, we requested the crème brûlée. Andrii brought out the crème brûlée and chocolate torte, which was on the house for the aforementioned anniversary. The atmosphere was lovely. Quiet music in the background, and everyone looked to be genuinely enjoying their evening. Definitely recommend a night out here, and while we had a very enjoyable evening, it is possible to come away with a more frugal experience. I will absolutely seek to return here for another special occasion again in the future. Did I mention they had an anniversary greeting card for us? No? Well, they did! It's the little things like that which put the experience a cut above. If you have the means, I highly recommend a romantic evening here with your partner, and ask for Andrii.
Our server Andrii was great. Our steak was perfect. Overall experience was amazing from our choice of wine, the appetizer, to our main meal and to our dessert. The "Happy Anniversary" card from the Team was a sweet gesture from the team. Hands down! Thank you Modern Steak Team! (Southport )
A great neighbourhood steak house offering specialty steak menu but maintaining a warm, friendly family atmosphere. They won't ask for patrons to dress formal. The service maintains throughout was friendly, efficient and warm. No pressure at all. Food was great and cook right to order. Drinks and desserts are good and at a right price.
This was my first time at modern steak and I am sure super impressed, I am a foodie and surprised I have not tried this restaurant. However, service is top notch, I actually enjoy this place more than chairman’s 🤫 I highly recommend the tomahawk steak and king crab, went amazing together Andrill was our server, he was wonderful but mostly appreciate there team to ensure great service! The manager came over checked in super nice and welcoming staff! I appreciate the amazing service and meal! I will absolutely be back very soon!
Great experience, warm welcoming, service was top notch and the steaks were done right delicious. The GM even came up to our table to see that we were satisfied with everything. Highly recommended.
**Google rating: 2 stars** Food overall was excellent and everyone at the table was happy with what they received. The server was attentive and professional despite spilling a glass of water on my 83-year-old mother right at the start of the meal. The main problem was the steak I had specifically pre-ordered for myself. I sent the order roughly a month in advance and resent it six days before the reservation. Staff repeatedly told me the chef and the team were glad I had sent it early so they would have it ready. Forty-five minutes after we were seated, the manager came to the table and said the pre-ordered steak was not available. The tone was dismissive. There was no apology that matched the situation, no offer of a discount, no credit toward a future visit, and no meaningful attempt to make it right. It felt like the item had simply been given to someone else. This was not a table order. It was my individual pre-order, confirmed in advance, and it was the one thing I had arranged ahead of time. The rest of the meal went well, but losing a confirmed pre-order and then receiving a “too bad” response from the manager is not acceptable. I tipped 25 percent on the bill anyway. I would consider returning only if the restaurant treats pre-orders as binding and handles a failure with more accountability than we received.
Fantastic food but poor service. Not the waiter’s fault - he was alone managing an entire section. It took 30 minutes to get drinks and a 2 hr meal should have taken half that.
My wife and I initially went to Modern Steak for a Mother’s Day Brunch. It was unfortunately a poor experience. We were given some gift certificates and invited back, being told to contact the general manager to make our booking. I didn’t want to book through the manager because I wanted to give it an honest second chance. We went for the Sunday Supper yesterday and were blown away. The food was incredible. We were welcomed by some delicious truffle butter popcorn. We went with the Caesar salad and were not disappointed. The “not cheese toast” was so fluffy and full of flavour. The mashed potatoes were seasoned to perfection. The broccolini was very tasty and cooked well (most of the time when I get broccolini from a restaurant it’s either soggy or raw). The ribeye completely floored us and even came with multiple salts to flavour it with which was a unique and fun touch. The baked Alaska was flambéed table side which was entertaining and delectable. Not only was everything so yummy, the portions were quite large and the meal could’ve fed a third person. I’m glad we gave it a second chance. We will definitely be back especially for that Sunday supper meal. I’d go back every week if we could.
I’ve been in Calgary for almost 2 months on business from Vancouver and tried 4 of your so called best restaurants for steaks. This is by far the most superior in regards to quality, execution, tastes and particularly service and attentiveness. I almost never give a full 5⭐️’s even in my own city of many Michelin star restaurants. This restaurant really left an impression on me tonight. Unfortunately I don’t remember the young lady’s name who served us tonight but I’d wish there were more of her in the hospitality industry nowadays. Bravo!!!
Overall, a pretty good steakhouse that delivers on quality and flavor. The steaks were cooked to absolutely tender, juicy, and seasoned just right. The sides were equally impressive and added a fun twist to the meal. The lobster poutine was rich and indulgent, while the onion ring tower was crispy, flavorful, and a great sharing dish. To top it off, Modern Steak also boasts a solid wine selection that pairs beautifully with their menu. Definitely worth a visit for anyone craving a great steak experience with some creative sides.
