Caravan Cafe
A family-run Uzbek and Central Asian cafe on an industrial stretch of Manilla Rd SE - plov, pelmeni, somsa and honey cake from an owner who, by every account, cooks it with love. Listed as fully halal on Zabihah, and one of the few Central Asian kitchens in Calgary. What to order The dumplings - pelmeni and manti - are what people rave about, followed by the plov (rice pilaf) and the baked somsa pastries. Save room: the homemade desserts, honey cake especially, get their own sentence in most reviews. There is a weekend menu worth ordering across a table. Good to know Closed Mondays and shuts at 6pm on weekdays - an early-dinner or weekend place, open to 7pm on Saturday and Sunday. Friday opens at noon. Cosy and family-friendly, good for children and groups, with free parking. Dine in or take out. Rated 4.8 from more than 140 Google reviews.
