from Google🌮 Tried Taqueria El Chefe and here’s my honest review! If you’re looking for authentic Mexican flavors, this spot is definitely worth checking out. My friends tried the beef birria tacos, and they absolutely loved them—the meat was flavorful, and the consommé was a big hit. They also tried another variety of tacos, and both tasted fresh and authentic. As a vegetarian, though, I was a little disappointed. There weren’t many options available—when I asked, the only vegetarian choice was a cheese & beans quesadilla. I wish they had a few more meat-free options on the menu. The restaurant itself is quite small, so it’s better suited for a quick bite or takeout rather than a long meal. On warmer days, it can get pretty hot inside, so keep that in mind. ⭐ Overall: Great spot for authentic tacos, especially if you’re a meat lover. Vegetarians may find the menu a bit limited. Quaint little place in the northeast. Definitely worth the trip, food was amazing, delicious, flavorful. The meat was tender and juicy in the burria tacos, not too spicy. The quesadilla was sooooo tasty!! The space was small but super cute and cozy. The employers were nice with smiles on their face!
Definately the best Birria Tacos! I can't speak for their other tacos yet, but the beef birria with cheese is perfectly seasoned and cooked and the consome is the best I've ever had. Great tortillas and very pleasant staff.
Everything we ordered was bomb! The birria tacos and the mezquites were standouts, and the serving sizes were fair for the price. The only item we didn't really enjoy was the tres leches in a cup; it just didn't quite hit the mark for us. We also tried the candy with chamoy and tajín, which was a great treat to take home. With two orders of birria tacos, an order of mezquites, the candy, and two jarritos, our total came to $87. Overall, good experience and we’ll definitely be back!
Recently discovered this place for their esquites! Loved the first cup I had here today as it was made beautifully! However, I came back again in the evening (on the same day) and the 2nd cup is too watery for my liking that I unfortunately couldnt eat half of it. 🥲 Attaching photos for comparison. P.S Love the birria pizza and burrito!! Edit 7/18: Came back again today to order another cup and they made my day by replacing the watery cup from my last order! 😊 Really sad that I’m just currently visiting AB but I’ll definitely have this place in my heart and would always drop by on my next visit!

Wow, I think I just found my favorite taco place in Calgary. Menu is limited. However, what the food they make is amazing. Service is non existent. Place is small and not a lot of seating. If you are looking for a sit down place for a special day, this is not the place to eat in. Stopping in for quick bite, it is perfect. During busy times like lunch and supper, strongly recommended ordering a half hour ahead. We ate three of their tacos, barría, carne asada and campechanos. They did not disappoint. Amazing taste and priced appropriately for size of order.
The food is alright but way overpriced. Waited for almost an hour for three simple tacos. The girl attending acts as if she’d rather you not be there, doesn’t greet or smile at all. Do not believe the 5 star reviews as they try to bribe customers offering free drinks in exchange of 5 star reviews. They don’t even have a trash can but of course they do have a bin to place cans so they can sell at a depot. I do not recommend this place as there are much better alternatives in the NE.
Whoever came up with the idea of putting birria and pizza together deserves a standing ovation! 🇲🇽🍕 Seriously… only a Mexican genius could create something this delicious. My husband kept telling me I had to try the Birria Pizza from Taqueria El Chefe, and I finally gave in. Let’s just say… he was 100% right (don’t tell him I admitted that! 😂). The pizza is loaded with amazing flavor, and dipping each slice into the rich, savory consommé takes it to another level. If you’re ordering, do yourself a favor and get extra consommé—you’ll thank me later! One tip: don’t wait until the last minute if you’re craving one. They sell out quickly, and after one bite, you’ll understand why. This pizza is proof that sometimes the craziest ideas turn out to be the best ones. Absolutely delicious, and I’ll definitely be ordering it again! 🌮🍕🔥

If a cup of esquites is not right, say so, since diners say staff have happily replaced one. You can phone a takeout order ahead, which saves a wait at the counter, and the candy with chamoy and tajin makes a good treat to take home.
