Food World Halal Meat and Grocery
A halal butcher and grocery on 37 Street SW, and one of very few on the west side of the city — most of Calgary’s halal meat counters are in the northeast, so a family in Glendale or Killarney is otherwise looking at a cross-city drive. What to buy Chicken, meat and fish all rate well, with prices comparable to the supermarkets. The shelves carry Pakistani lines other shops do not, and there is a wide spice selection. The range is narrower than the big northeast stores - it is a well-organised small shop rather than a superstore. Good to know It is run by two men and they are not the same experience, which more than one reviewer says plainly. One is described as generous to a fault - handing over food unprompted; the other as impatient, including over a question about which cut suited a dish. Be specific about what you are cooking and confirm the cut before it is wrapped. 3.9 is on the low side for a counter here, and neighbourhood grocers collect complaints about stock, queues and parking that say nothing about the meat. Rated 3.9 from more than 160 Google reviews.
