Village square leisure centre is by far the best indoor pool in all of Calgary! Nothing tops it. Even the outdoor ones! This place has a design seen no where else. And it feels so unique! It’s sad this place will likely lose it after re opening for renovations next year… I can’t count the amount of times I’ve gone here in all the years of it being open. I love every part about it. Sure.. it can use fixes. But I really hope they keep this architecture. So 1990s! So many fun memories and excitement. Especially on my most recent visit. The last for a while.. I provided plenty of photos I took on my last visit. The wave pool is my most favourite part about the whole entire place. Whether it’s the murals, pool or experience. Everything about it is always lovely and fun to check out with family or friends. Now, the best part. The thunder run! Truly an iconic part of Calgary. It’s unfortunate to see it go… always a blast heading down it, even if it’s pitch black almost every time. The slide could’ve used more water running down it. But I think it’s a bit too late to bring that up now. Besides that, no complaints at the wave pool. In my many years visiting it. I’ve been ticked a few times by the lifeguards for doing things I wasn’t. But that’s all in the past. But it’s to note. I had trouble getting some pictures because of this. (There’s enough on here, so who cares!) Of course, the leisure centre hasn’t always been in the best area. Not always a good reputation. But at the end of the day, we’re only here for the building and what it brings! Depending on when you go, the parking can be a bit limited. Especially near the entrance. But it’s not the biggest worry. Just an extra walk when having to park a bit further. Inside. There’s plenty of things to do and check out whether you’re with friends or even your kids. I’m not sure if they still host party rooms, but those always worked out well back then. There used to be a bit more things for kids to do downstairs back then. But even now, village square still offers some things. Everything is located very conveniently throughout the building. Gym, area, pool etc. There is lots of room to enter and exit at each part of the building. The food options have definitely gone down in recent years. But if you look hard enough, you will find something. One downside is seeing them rarely open. But it’s also convenient with the number of vending machines around the building. Placed where you’d expect to find them. I’m going to miss what this place was. But I can only hope for a better future at Village Square leisure centre!

This place has such a fun swimming area—the kids absolutely love it! The public pool even has small waves, which makes it extra exciting. The door lock facilities could use a bit of an upgrade, though. The skating area is also a big hit with the kids. Overall, it’s a perfect spot for them to burn off energy!

As a former employee who hadn't visited Village Square Leisure Centre in over a decade, I was disappointed by my recent experience. I visited with a friend to do badminton drills during a time when the gym was relatively quiet. Every group had their own court, and there were no customers waiting to play. Despite this, a Customer Service Representative approached us and told us we needed to share our court. I explained that I had no issue sharing once the facility became busier or if someone was waiting, but when I asked who was waiting for a court, I was not given a clear answer. Since there were available courts and no one waiting, the request seemed unnecessary and inconsistent with the situation. We also had a camera set up to record our drills. It was positioned so that it only captured us and did not record other patrons. We were informed that filming was against policy, so we immediately turned the camera off. A short time later, another CSR approached us and instructed us to turn it off again, even though it was already powered off. This made us feel as though we were being singled out unnecessarily. My concern isn't that staff were enforcing policies. It's that the policies were applied without considering the actual circumstances, and the communication lacked professionalism and common sense. A simple explanation or a more customer-focused approach would have made a significant difference. Having worked here years ago, I remember staff exercising good judgment while still maintaining the rules. Unfortunately, that wasn't my experience during this visit. It left me feeling frustrated and unwelcome, and I don't plan on returning anytime soon. I hope management takes this feedback as an opportunity to provide additional customer service training and encourage staff to communicate policies in a more respectful and practical manner. Truly a disappointment.

The staff are super friendly and helpful. The pool area is fantastic and the waterslides are an absolute blast! Highly recommend for families with kids or anyone just looking to enjoy a fun swim. The gym looks well-equipped and there’s lots of cool art and murals throughout the place

We came to Village Square last night, August 7, with our family for what was supposed to be a fun evening of swimming. Unfortunately, what happened with one of the children's waterslides was extremely concerning. Around 7:50pm, our 4-year-old wanted to go down the slide in the children's splash area, so my husband accompanied her. A staff member told them the area would be closing soon. Our daughter went down first, and my husband followed immediately afterward. As soon as he entered the enclosed slide, the water stopped. He was suddenly inside a dark waterslide with no water flowing and was afraid of becoming stuck inside. He ultimately had to physically climb back up the slide to get out. My husband is 38 years old and around 98 kg, so climbing back up a wet, enclosed slide was extremely difficult and took some time. I was outside waiting for him and became increasingly worried because he was taking so long. When he finally came out and explained what had happened, he was visibly shaken and remained in shock for the entire drive home. What concerns me most is that the water was shut off while someone was still inside the slide. There should be a clear procedure to ensure that the slide is completely clear before the water is turned off, especially with an enclosed slide where someone could potentially become trapped. I also spoke with two staff members afterward, and unfortunately, I was very disappointed by the response. I expected much more concern and urgency given what had just happened. I have now submitted a formal complaint to the City of Calgary and am requesting that the incident and the facility's procedures be investigated. I am sharing this review because other families should be aware that this happened and, hopefully, steps will be taken to ensure it doesn't happen to someone else. We go to aquatic facilities trusting that the equipment is being operated safely. I sincerely hope Village Square takes this seriously and reviews what happened. Please be careful and make sure staff are aware of where patrons are before shutting down the water flow on the slides.

I used to go here a lot and lately I have been coming here more recently. Overall. it is a good community centre and I enjoy coming here. The staff are friendly, the facility has a lot to offer, and it’s a convenient place to stay active. That said, the pool area could be cleaner. Sometimes it doesn’t feel as well-maintained as it should be, especially for a space that gets a lot of use. It’s not terrible, but definitely something that could be improved. Still a solid place overall, but I am just hoping they maybe they would put a bit more attention into cleanliness, especially around the pool.

I enjoy this leisure center. Great weight room and separate training room with mats and boxing equipment. Plenty of parking during the weekdays but gets tight on the weekends. Big plus, it has a small restaurant in it (great price for simple meals) and the Village Square Library! Heads up that steam room and the locker room don't open until around 1 pm during the week.

This was my first time visiting in about ten years, and honestly, I’m disappointed. First of all, many of the lockers in the men's change room are missing locks and keys, which makes them useless for protecting your belongings. When I finally found a functional locker and inserted my $1 coin, the mechanism rejected it. I tried a second locker and the same thing happened. It wasn't until the third locker that it finally worked; this is utterly unacceptable. Furthermore, I checked the Village Square Leisure Centre website yesterday and again this morning. It stated that all facilities were open, but when I arrived at 1:00 PM, everything was closed except for the pool, the hot tub, and the steam room. Since the rest of the facilities didn't open until 3:00 PM, I had to wait two hours. Why doesn't the website specify these staggered opening times? You should ensure everything is operational before opening your doors to the public instead of claiming everything is available. In a way, you are misleading people and wasting their time. Safety is also a major concern. While walking up the stairs to the Thunder slide, I noticed a broken plastic drain cover. I could have easily caught my toe in it, tripped, and been seriously hurt. Additionally, there is a severely dented pipe in the steam room. This is extremely dangerous; if that pipe were to leak or burst, hot steam could spray someone, causing serious injury or even death. You guys really need to get it together. Southland Leisure Centre recently completed a massive renovation and is doing an amazing job. You should follow their lead.
