from GoogleI recently ordered from Afghan Chatkhara Restaurant and had a very disappointing experience due to poor communication and incorrect food delivery. I asked about “Kebab Karahi” and the staff member literally said, “I don’t even know what Kebab Karahi is.” She then directed me to select from the menu, so I chose Khebar Tikka Karahi, expecting it to be grilled tikka-style meat cooked in a karahi as described (or at least prepared on the grill as is common for such dishes). What I received at home was completely different—not the grilled tikka version I ordered. When I called back to complain and clarify, the same staff member (or another) now claimed that the “grill is called Kebab Karahi,” contradicting her earlier statement that she had no idea what it was. This flip-flopping shows a clear lack of knowledge about their own menu and poor training. The service felt careless and unprofessional, and I ended up with the wrong dish despite clearly stating my selection. I do not recommend this place if you expect accurate orders or basic menu understanding from the staff. Very frustrating and pathetic service overall.
Not sure if they know how to run a business. Both phone numbers listed outside don’t even work, so ordering ahead isn’t possible. Almost everyone here was just ordering naan. I only needed 12, while other people were ordering 20, 30, even 50. Don’t understand why they take one person at a time, wait until the entire order is completed, then move to the next person when there’s constantly a line of 6+ people and each order takes 10+ minutes. At least take everyone’s order first and give proper wait times so people can sit in their car with AC or do other errands instead of standing inside a hot shop with no AC on a hot summer day.
The service was excellent, and the food was very good value for money. Although the restaurant is not fancy, it serves authentic Afghan food, including the best tandoori/fried chicken I've had. The taste is great, and the dishes are very authentic.
Best naans in the town. Soft and fluffy. Freshly cooked in front of you. Plus great offer 12 naans for $12. Haven’t tried any other from this restaurant yet but a huge fan of their naans. They have hugh collection of different karahi (dishes). Hopefully they will taste as good as there naans.
Today I visited Chatkharas Afghan Restaurant and unfortunately had a very disappointing experience. I had pre-ordered several naan breads by phone and specifically asked them to have them ready. When I arrived, I also ordered two garlic naans on the spot, and those were fresh and good because they were cooked in front of me. However, the pre-ordered naans were clearly not fresh. They tasted stale and seemed to be reheated. I even saw staff reheating naans inside the restaurant. After eating the pre-ordered naan, I started vomiting about two hours later, which was very concerning. I also noticed a lot of dust on surfaces inside the restaurant, which made the environment look unclean. At the time of payment, the staff member first told me the total was $13.58, but then he increased the amount without clear explanation. I paid by card and was not given a receipt. As a customer in Canada, I expect proper hygiene standards, fresh food, transparency in billing, and professional service. Sadly, this experience did not meet those expectations. I sincerely request Alberta Health Services to inspect this restaurant to ensure food safety and cleanliness standards are being followed.
This is takeout only I enjoyed the food, i enjoyed their lamb dopyaza, chicken karahi, mutton karahi, and naan It is chicken karahi was was really oily and tasty in a good way , yum . Lamb dopyaza was also very flavourful. This is takeout only. The only thing that needs to improve is that they need food packaging / food wrapping needs to improve. My chicken karahi and mutton karahi container was wrapped in clear plastic wrap , but my lamb dopyaza was not wrapped in plastic and as a results it was spilling outside the container on the way home.and the naan was put below everything else at the bottom of the bag,. My nam bag was s oaked but inside was safe. , So good idea would be to put naan separately. Luckily my vehicle had rubber mats so no big issues in my case, but it could easily stain the clothes , car seats etc. so this is just a contructive criticism on the packing of food, i loved the food and place

A halal Afghan, Pakistani and Indian kitchen with an on-site prayer space on Castleridge Drive NE, where the naan is baked in the tandoor in front of you and the karahi choice is wide. The room is simple and unfussy, and the cooking is the draw.
What to order
Start with the naan. Diners praise it as soft, fluffy and freshly cooked, and the garlic naan made in front of you is a favourite. The tandoori and fried chicken come up again and again as the highlights, and the chapli kabab and beef kabab are worth trying alongside the karahis. The menu also has daal, lamb dopyaza and a side menu of Punjabi-style specialty pizzas, so a mixed table can find plenty to share.
Before you go
Takeaway naan orders keep the kitchen busy, so for a gathering, order early and allow extra time at peak times. Diners say the service is excellent and the food is very good value. Naan is best straight from the tandoor, so ask for it fresh.
